To celebrate its 20th anniversary the USA Powerball is making some very big changes to its lottery game format. PlayHugeLottos.com takes a look at these new changes happening on Powerball.
Effective 15th January 2012, the USA Powerball lottery will be implementing some new changes to its incredibly popular format. So, what changes can we expect from the new lottery structure? |
Bigger Jackpots and Better Odds
Yes, you read correctly. Already one of the most popular lotteries in the world, Powerball just got even better with increased jackpot sizes and better odds of winning!
• The starting jackpot size will be DOUBLED, increasing from $20 million to $40 million
• The second tier prize will be increased dramatically, from $200,000 to $1 million
With every little bit counting these days the Powerball organisers have even increased the lowest prize from $3 to $4 (for matching only the lucky Powerball).
• The ‘Powerball’ pool of white balls will decrease from 39 balls to 35 balls – making the chance of winning the jackpot prize higher
Players will now have a 1 in 31.8 chance of winning a prize on the Powerball lottery. The Jackpot itself now offers better odds than its multi-state lotto counterpart, the Megamillions.
Exciting Powerball Changes
The USA Powerball is currently on record as having had the 3rd biggest jackpot win ever in the world. On the 18th February 2006 eight co-workers from a Nebraska meat-processing plant had the winning ticket and took home $365 million US Dollars. The new format Powerball lottery promises to introduce many more people to the exciting millionaire lifestyle.
Powerball draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday. The first draw to feature the new changes will take place on the 18th January 2012.
Good luck to all our players!
