How To Play The Summer El Gordo
Summer El Gordo is played in a raffle style with players choosing a number between 0 and 99,999. Players therefore have a total of 100,000 numbers to choose from.
All 100,000 numbers are sold 10 times across 10 books or “series”, each book being divided into 10 tickets or ‘decimas’. In other words, each number can be played a total of 100 times. Players can purchase all the available tickets for one number, guaranteeing them the maximum prize should that number be picked. Alternatively they can select individual tickets for different numbers and receive 1/100th of the prize should that number prove to be a winning one.

El Gordo Christmas Lottery
The Spanish Christmas lottery, also known as Sorteo de Navidad or Lotería de Navidad is one of the oldest lotteries in the world having been played since 1812. Not only is it one of the oldest lotteries, it is also generally regarded as the biggest lottery in the world in terms of total prize payouts. The Christmas lottery is therefore immensely popular with an estimated 98% of the Spanish population taking part each year. Now you too can be a part of the action on PlayHugeLottos.com.
The Richest Lottery In The World
Lotería de Navidad is regarded as the biggest lottery in the world for a very good reason. With a prize fund that runs into the BILLIONS of Euros and a Jackpot prize tier that pays out millions to hundreds of tickets, El Gordo is surely a good bet for a Merry Christmas for lottery players all around the world. Players have a 15% chance of winning a prize and as an added incentive (as if any was needed) all winning are paid in a lump sum and are tax-free.
How To Play El Gordo Navidad
The Christmas lottery bears more similarity to a raffle than to a typical lottery draw. Players do not choose their own numbers but rather select from pre-printed tickets already containing set numbers, of which only a certain amount are released. It is therefore possible for the Christmas lottery tickets to sell out before the draw takes place.
Each five digit number is repeated across multiple tickets. The exact amount of times a number is repeated will vary from draw to draw but can sometimes be as much as 195 times. This means that should a person’s number match the winning number, they will share the prize amount with 194 other ticket holders. It’s just as well that the prize funds are so gigantic!
If you thought that the entry process was different to what you may be used to, you may be even more surprised at the draw procedure (which has not changed since the first draw back in 1812). The winning numbers and the associated prize value are drawn from two separate ball containers and these are then sung out loud to the public by school children from the San Ildefonso school. This process is repeated for the many thousands of prize tiers in the draw. As you might imagine the draw itself can therefore take up to 3 – 4 hours to complete.
The entire draw is broadcast by Televisión Española and Radio Nacional de España.
