| Powerball is a lottery game modelled on the highly successful American Powerball game. The game is administered by Tattersalls, and syndicated to all states through the Australian Lotto Bloc. Draws take place on Thursday nights, with the first draw held on 23 May 1996. |
To play the Australian Powerball game lottery players need to select a total of 7 numbers.
– 6 from a possible 40 (the standard numbers)
– 1 from a possible 20 (the Powerball number)
To win the jackpot players need to match all 7 numbers drawn.
Powerball’s largest jackpot prize to date is $80 million, which was shared between two tickets (in Victoria and New South Wales) on 30 July 2009 – only weeks after Oz Lotto set the current record of more than $106 million.
Oz Powerball Prize Structure:
Australian Powerball offers 8 prize divisions. The minimum requirement to win a prize is to match 2 regular balls plus the Powerball. The top prize requires a player to match all 7 numbers (6 standard numbers plus the Powerball).
